# Inactive/Malicious Keepers

Keepers act as nodes within the network and receive rewards for their services. As the ecosystem expands, the desire is to have multiple keepers to ensure decentralization. They are responsible for monitoring orders and positions, invoking smart contracts to submit index prices, and executing orders.

Keepers are selected by the **MYX DAO** and must collateralize assets within the keeper contract. These assets remain locked for **7 days** after the keeper's authorization ends. As long as the keeper's assets are locked, **users** have the ability to **vote** and **report** any inactivity or misconduct by the keeper. By holding both MYX and MLP tokens, keepers' interests are aligned with those of MYX users, reducing the likelihood of misconduct.

Should a keeper's inactivity result in losses for the exchange or its users, their deposit may be partially or fully slashed to cover these losses, and their authorization could be revoked.
