# Trading fees

### Overview

Trading fees on MYX are charged on **notional value**.

In simple terms:

* the larger your position, the larger the fee
* fee rates depend on the market’s **rating group**
* fee rates also depend on your **VIP tier**
* whether a trade is charged as **maker** or **taker** depends on whether it **balances** or **skews** open interest

This page covers **trading fees only**.\
Funding is explained separately.

### How Trading Fees Work

A trading fee is charged whenever you execute trading activity such as:

* opening a position
* increasing a position
* reducing a position
* closing a position

The fee is calculated as:

**Trading Fee = Notional Value × Fee Rate**

#### Example

If you open a **10,000 USDC** position and your fee rate is **0.05%**:

* Fee = 10,000 × 0.05%
* Fee = **5 USDC**

If you later close the same 10,000 USDC position at the same fee rate:

* another **5 USDC** is charged

Total round-trip fee:

* **10 USDC**

### Maker vs Taker on MYX

On MYX, **maker** and **taker** are not defined by order type.

They are defined by whether your trade helps **balance** market open interest or pushes it further out of balance.

#### Maker

A trade is treated as **maker** when it helps reduce directional imbalance.

This means your order is moving against the crowded side and helping the market become more balanced.

#### Taker

A trade is treated as **taker** when it increases directional imbalance.

This means your order is pushing the market further toward one side and requiring more LP capacity to absorb the skew.

### Simple Intuition

If the market is already heavily net long:

* opening more longs is generally **taker**
* opening shorts that offset that imbalance is generally **maker**

If the market is already heavily net short:

* opening more shorts is generally **taker**
* opening longs that offset that imbalance is generally **maker**

So the key question is not:

> “Was this a market order or a limit order?”

The key question is:

> “Did this trade make the market more balanced or less balanced?”

### Why MYX Uses This Model

MYX is designed to reward flow that improves balance and charge more for flow that worsens imbalance.

That is why:

* **maker fees are lower**
* **taker fees are higher**

This fee design works together with funding and slippage to discourage one-sided accumulation and improve capital efficiency.

### What Determines Your Fee Rate

Your trading fee depends on two things:

#### 1. Market Rating Group

Markets are grouped by rating:

* **A–H**
* **I–J**
* **K–L**
* **M–N**
* **O–P**

Higher-quality markets generally have lower fees.\
Lower-rated markets generally have higher fees.

#### 2. VIP Tier

Your VIP level reduces fees further.

VIP tiers currently range from:

* **VIP 0**
* **VIP 1**
* **VIP 2**
* **VIP 3**
* **VIP 4**
* **VIP 5**

Higher VIP tiers pay lower fees.
